Researching Families in the British Isles

Tuesday and Wednesday were full days of learning about our Scottish and Irish ancestors.

Christine Woodcock helped us get started with our Scottish research, provided online resources for us, told us about the wealth of records available in the libraries, archives and family history societies in Scotland and then helped us to understand some of the historic events that led to our Scottish ancestors leave their homeland for America.

On Wednesday, Maurice Gleeson helped us trace our ancestors back to Ireland, explained church and civil registration records, talked about census and census substitute records and then shared some of the less common records for Irish research.

This has been a wonderful week of learning, connecting and sharing. We look forward to more learning opportunities from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History
